Lovely warm spring weather at Perth today and nice ground by all accounts.  Pleased with our two runners, both ran solid races to finish 4th at long odds, something to build on.  Back there tomorrow with one runner in the 1.30, Sanosuke, 9 run and Sean Quinlan rides.  He improved to run a fine race to be 2nd last time, what the form was worth I’m not sure but he should improve again tomorrow and could run into a place hopefully.

It will be nice having Lucy at Perth tomorrow, 9 years ago at this fixture she won the bumper on Frankie’s Promise to seal the Conditional Jockeys title, the first for a female rider and amazing  considering where she had come from.  I seem to remember she received a two day whip ban that day such was her determination, the only whip ban incurred in her 1975 rides under rules which yielded 180 winners.

Lucy on Frankie’s Promise

She is drawing a line under her career as a jockey this week as it has been clear for a while that it would not be prudent to race ride again following her back injury, whilst the circumstances aren’t ideal and I am sure she will dwell on “what might have been”, I know she is grateful for the career she had and to have been able make a little impact on our sport.  The Racing Post published a nice article today which is worth reading and you can read it here.  I could write a lot more of course but suffice it to say her skill, courage and commitment never ceased to amaze me and Kinneston is where it is today thanks to her.

Perth winners are always special – Jet Master

Will be on to the Fife Point-to-Point on Saturday and then a long overdue Team Party that night, we are having to wrap three end of season and two Christmas parties into one so it will hopefully a fun evening to thank our Team for all their hard work.
