Awful weather this morning, cold with rain, sleet and snow and strong winds but much better this afternoon. A great win at Kelso on Monday for Travail D’Orfevre, we had lost our way with him a bit this season so it was wonderful for him to come back to his best.

It is Grand National week of course, sadly we have no runners at Aintree but I am delighted that Lake View Lad has been asked to parade with the former Grand National winners as a tribute to his late owner Trevor Hemmings.

Travail D’Orfèvre with Bruce and Kelly after winning at Kelso

Happy trainer, tired horse

We however will be at Newcastle where we have 2 runners on ground that will just be on the soft side of good. First up is Chanting Hill in the 2:15. She was struck into and pulled up early at Carlisle two weeks ago, but has been fine since and should have a decent chance in this easier contest. Sean Quinlan rides and 6 run.

We then run Warrior’s Story in the 4pm, he improved to finish a good 4th over course and distance last time and if he can progress again from that shouldn’t be too far away. Bruce rides and 13 run.

Eyes of course will be on Aintree, where my heart as ever will be ruling my head in hoping that either Snow Leopardess or Fortescue can win. Good luck everyone!
