A bit dull here again, showers about, cool and not exactly barbecue weather. Only a handful of horses in work and no runners but a successful visit to Goffs Sales in Doncaster last week to report on. Trade for the 3yo Stores was very strong for the right horse, as it was for the young Point-to-Pointers with form but the market for second hand Horses in Training was considerably more realistic.
It was interesting that when we followed the Stores and Pointers into the ring we often didn’t even bid with them making 20-30% above our estimates whereas not only were we successful twice in the HiT market we were also under bidder four times showing that the market matched our valuations much more closely.
This is always an interesting process each year as we head out into the marketplace trying ensure our Clients receive value as bolster our equine team, it is a fickle game and we will always be happier leaving a sale empty handed rather than feel we have paid too much for a horse.
Attending the Sales is always a great social occasion and this Sale in particular is always great fun, this year was no exception and long hot days looking at horses always seems to make me particularly thirsty!
We have more horses to buy and there are Sales this week at Ascot and Newmarket then it’s the Irish Store Sales next month followed by Deauville then Newmarket again, we won’t be at them all in person but will be looking at the catalogues closely and have representatives present as necessary.
